USC earns first NCAA College Cup title: Marihelen Tomer and Janessa Currier scored as USC beat Florida State 2-0 Sunday in the final of the NCAA Women's College Cup in College Station, Texas. Ali Khosroshahin made history. He is the first women's soccer coach to win the Division I national title in his first season at a school. Before this year, the Women of Troy (20-3-2) had not advanced past the second round of the NCAA tournament. "If we didn't get it accomplished this year," Khosroshahin
said, "it would've been a huge disappointment." Florida State (18-6-3) was shut out for the second time this season. USC snapped a nine-game winless streak in matches against UCLA when it beat the top-ranked Bruins 2-1 in a semifinal match Friday. |
